Description
The Bourgeois Touchstone SDS/TS is a slope-shoulder dreadnought built through a collaboration between Dana Bourgeois' Maine workshop and Eastman-trained luthiers working to his specifications - the tops are hand-selected, tap-tuned, and braced in Lewiston before the instrument is completed and returned to Bourgeois for final setup. That process puts a genuinely luthier-driven guitar in your hands at roughly half the cost of an all-USA Bourgeois build. The Aged Tone Sitka spruce top is torrefied - heated in an oxygen-free environment to remove compounds that dampen vibration - which gives it the broken-in responsiveness of a played-in instrument from the start.
Mahogany back, sides, and neck keep the voice focused and direct, and Dana Bourgeois' bracing philosophy trims the bass-side braces to keep the low end in check, so this dreadnought reads balanced rather than boomy. The 25" scale length sits slightly shorter than a standard long-scale dreadnought, giving the string tension a more relaxed feel under the fingers. An ebony fingerboard and ziricote bridge round out a spec package that punches well above this price point. This guitar rewards players who flatpick hard - bluegrass, country, or driving singer-songwriter work - but handles a lighter touch without losing clarity. A hardshell case is included.
