About the Gibson Les Paul

Introduced in 1952, the Les Paul is the most recorded electric guitar in history. The recipe hasn't changed: a mahogany body with a carved maple cap, set mahogany neck, and a pair of humbuckers that deliver everything from warm jazz cleans to singing, saturated leads. The Studio strips the binding for the player who wants the tone without the price; the Standard delivers the classic '50s or slimmer '60s neck experience; and Custom Shop reissues, including Murphy Lab aged finishes, recreate the golden-era 'bursts that made Jimmy Page, Slash, and Billy Gibbons household names. Because so much of our Les Paul stock is one-of-a-kind Custom Shop inventory, the exact guitars on this page change constantly. If you see the one, it may not be here next week.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a Les Paul Standard and a Studio?

The Standard has body and neck binding, premium finishes, and the classic appointments; the Studio delivers the same mahogany/maple tonewood recipe and pickups in a plainer package for less money. Tonally they're much closer than the price gap suggests.

Do you carry Custom Shop and Murphy Lab Les Pauls?

Yes, we regularly stock Gibson Custom Shop reissues including Murphy Lab Ultra Light through Heavy Aged finishes. These are one-off pieces, so stock changes weekly; contact us if you're hunting a specific year or finish.

Will my Les Paul be set up before it ships?

Every guitar we sell is inspected and professionally set up before shipping, and anything over $3K gets a complimentary PLEK fret dress on Georgia's only PLEK station.
