This Martin Custom Shop NAMM 2026 Custom #7 is a limited run instrument built around a tonewood pairing that can be difficult to source: a Certified European Spruce top over a Sinker Mahogany body and neck. Sinker Mahogany is old-growth Honduran mahogany originally logged in the late 1800s, transported by river, and submerged for well over a century before excavation and milling at Martin's factory - the extended natural aging process produces a warm, balanced voice with a pronounced midrange and smooth highs that fingerstyle players and players chasing pre-war resonance consistently seek out.
The 1933 Ambertone finish replicates the sunburst Martin used that specific year, grounding this build directly in the brand's pre-war period. Select Abalone Old Style 18 fingerboard inlays reinforce that vintage reference point. The GE Modified Low Oval neck profile with High Performance Taper runs a gradual nut-to-heel width change along the 25.4" scale, which smooths out position shifts during extended playing - the ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge are upper-tier Custom Shop appointments that complement the tonal character of the tonewoods.
