The Custom Shop treats the Telecaster as the historic document it is: faithful reissues of the 1950s blackguards, '60s customs with bound bodies, and thinlines, aged through NOS, Closet Classic, Journeyman, Relic, and Heavy Relic treatments, alongside limited runs and Masterbuilt builds. Hand-wound pickups, period-correct hardware, and nitro lacquer put these a class above production Teles, and the aged examples are each unique. What's a blackguard Telecaster?

Blackguard refers to the original 1950 to 1954 Telecasters and Nocasters with black bakelite pickguards over butterscotch blonde finishes. Custom Shop reissues of these early models are among the most sought-after Teles made; call us to hear which aging levels are in the building right now.

Do Custom Shop Telecasters come relic'd only?

No. The Time Machine range runs from NOS, which looks factory-new, through Closet Classic and Journeyman to Relic and Heavy Relic. If you want the vintage spec without the wear, an NOS or Closet Classic build is the pick.
