The Jet has been Gretsch's single-cut since 1953, the guitar behind George Harrison's early Beatles records and Malcolm Young's AC/DC rhythm tone. Chambered rather than solid, it growls where other single-cuts bark. Everything on this page is in stock, from Electromatic Jets to Players Edition.

About the Gretsch Jet

A Jet looks like a solid body and is not quite one: the mahogany body is chambered under the top, which gives it a drier snap and a touch of air that a slab body cannot make. Pair that with Filter'Tron-style pickups and you get the sound that carried everything from 1950s rockabilly to AC/DC's rhythm section. The Duo Jet is the founding model; the Sparkle Jet wraps it in drum-wrap sparkle finishes borrowed from Gretsch's drum catalog; the Penguin is its gold-dressed cousin, and we usually have one of those on the wall too.

We stock Jets in three tiers. Electromatic Jets (G5220, G5230T) are the value entry and an outstanding first Gretsch. Players Edition Jets (G6128T DS, G6228TG BT) add modern touches: locking tuners, pinned bridges, and treble-bleed wiring. Vintage Select Jets are period-correct reissues, like the '89 Sparkle Jet with Bigsby. Many are one-at-a-time guitars, so the wall rotates; if the finish you want is not here, call and ask what is inbound.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Gretsch Jet a solid body guitar?

Almost. Jet bodies are chambered: routed hollows under the top take out weight and add a dry, airy snap that a true slab body does not have. It handles like a solid body, resists feedback like one, and sounds like a Gretsch.

What is the difference between an Electromatic Jet and a Players Edition Jet?

Electromatic Jets (G5220, G5230T) are built overseas and are the best value in the line. Players Edition Jets (G6128T, G6228TG) are professional-grade builds with locking tuners, pinned bridges, string-through Bigsby options, and upgraded Filter'Tron pickups. The jump in feel and hardware is real, and so is the price gap, which is why we keep both on the wall.

Is the G5220 Electromatic Jet a good first Gretsch?

It is the one we recommend most. The G5220 gets you the chambered Jet body and Broad'Tron pickups at an entry price, and it takes a professional setup beautifully. Every one we sell is inspected and set up before it ships.
