The Gibson 1942 Banner J-45 Murphy Lab Light Aged is a slope-shoulder dreadnought built to replicate the wartime-era J-45s that have become benchmark instruments for players who want a focused, fundamental-driven acoustic voice. The thermally aged Adirondack Red Spruce top has been heat-treated in a vacuum to accelerate the cellular changes that normally take decades, giving it the stiffness-to-weight ratio and headroom of a broken-in vintage top from day one. Solid mahogany back and sides pair with hot hide glue hand-scalloped X-bracing to deliver a warm, punchy response with clear articulation across the dynamic range - equally capable under fingerpicking or flatpicking.
The Murphy Lab Light Aged treatment applies a thin nitrocellulose lacquer with intentional wear characteristics that mirror a well-preserved original, and the finish will continue to age naturally with play. At 4 lbs, the body stays true to the weight of the original wartime instruments, and the 24.75" scale with a 12" fingerboard radius and Historic mahogany neck profile make this a comfortable working guitar for extended sessions. A bone nut, rosewood rectangle open-slot bridge, and period-correct appointments - including the Banner headstock inlay - complete the historically accurate build. This is a pure acoustic instrument with no electronics, suited to players in folk, country, and bluegrass who want a J-45 rooted in the original specification.
