The Gibson 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Darkback Reissue in Double Gold is a period-correct recreation built by Gibson's Custom Shop for players and collectors who want an instrument that matches original 1957 construction from the ground up. The mahogany body is not weight-relieved, giving it the substantial, resonant feel of a vintage Les Paul, and the neck is set with hide glue for improved energy transfer between neck and body. A two-piece maple top sits under a VOS nitrocellulose lacquer finish, buffed to a light matte sheen that replicates the look of a well-kept vintage guitar rather than a showroom-new one.
The "Darkback" designation refers specifically to a Double Gold top paired with a darker-finished back, a detail drawn from certain original 1957 production runs. Custombucker Alnico III pickups are unpotted and wired through CTS 500K pots and paper-in-oil capacitors, delivering an articulate, open response that tracks closely to what original PAF-equipped guitars produced. The 24.75" scale length pairs with a 12" fingerboard radius and historic narrow/tall frets on a rosewood board - a combination that suits players who prefer a full-in-hand neck feel with lower fret height rather than modern jumbo frets.
