Description
The Martin DSS-16E pairs a slope-shoulder dreadnought body with a spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, making it a strong choice for players who want an all-solid Martin at a practical price point. The 24.9" scale length takes some tension off the fretting hand compared to a standard 25.4" dreadnought, and works naturally with mahogany's midrange-forward character to produce a focused, punchy response rather than heavy low-end bloom. Forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing opens up the top's resonance and adds depth to the bass register without softening the attack. The Modified Low Oval neck profile with High-Performance Taper keeps transitions between positions smooth across the full length of the ebony fingerboard, which also contributes a firm, articulate feel under the strings. An L.R. Baggs Element VTC passive undersaddle pickup rounds out the spec - it's a well-regarded system among working players for reproducing the guitar's natural acoustic sound without coloring it. This guitar suits singer-songwriters, fingerpickers, and open-tuning players who need an instrument that records and amplifies cleanly and plays without resistance.
