The PRS 40th Anniversary Special Semi-Hollow is the seventh and final release in PRS's year-long 40th Anniversary limited-edition series, strictly limited to 280 pieces worldwide and accompanied by a hand-signed certificate from Paul Reed Smith. Where the standard Special Semi-Hollow uses mahogany, this version substitutes black limba for both the body and neck - a tonewood prized for its lighter weight and open, resonant character - paired with an Artist Grade figured maple top and a single f-hole semi-hollow construction that adds airiness to the overall response. The 25" scale length, Pattern neck profile, and 10" fingerboard radius put this squarely in familiar PRS Core territory, making it accessible to players already comfortable with that platform.
The pickup configuration is where this guitar earns serious attention: new-for-2025 McCarty III humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions deliver articulate, vintage-voiced output via Alnico II magnets, while the Honduran rosewood-board center Narrowfield provides a full, punchy single-coil character without hum.
