The Silver Sky is John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith's take on the vintage single-coil guitar: familiar where it counts, refined everywhere else. We keep both rosewood and maple fretboard versions in a spread of colors, and every one is inspected and set up before it ships.

About the PRS Silver Sky

Launched in 2018 after years of development between John Mayer and Paul Smith, the Silver Sky pairs a vintage-inspired body and headstock with PRS refinements: 635JM single-coil pickups voiced on Mayer's favorite vintage guitars, a reworked tremolo, and PRS fit and finish throughout. Rosewood and maple fretboard versions each have their own feel and snap, and the color range, from Moc Sand to Polar Blue to limited runs, has become part of the guitar's identity. The SE Silver Sky brings the same design to a more accessible price, and our rule-based collection picks those up automatically whenever they are in stock.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the rosewood and maple fretboard Silver Sky?

Beyond the look, the maple board version has a slightly brighter, snappier response, while rosewood is a touch warmer and rounder. Neck carve and hardware are otherwise the same. It comes down to feel and voice preference; we stock both so you can compare.

How does the SE Silver Sky compare to the Core model?

The SE Silver Sky is built overseas to the same design with a poplar body and SE hardware, at less than half the price. The Core Silver Sky is made in PRS's Maryland factory with the 635JM pickups and premium construction. Both are legitimate John Mayer signature models; the Core is the definitive version.

Will my Silver Sky be set up before it ships?

Every guitar we sell is inspected and professionally set up before shipping, and anything over $3K gets a complimentary PLEK fret dress on Georgia's only PLEK station.
