The McCarty 594 is PRS's love letter to the golden-era electric: vintage-voiced pickups, a shorter scale, and the kind of woody midrange that usually costs five figures on the vintage market. We stock doublecut and Singlecut versions across the Core, S2, and SE lines.

About the PRS McCarty 594

Introduced in 2016 and named for Ted McCarty, the Gibson president who mentored Paul Smith, the McCarty 594 takes its number from its 24.594 inch scale length, chosen to nail the feel and sweetness of the late-1950s electrics. Vintage-voiced 58/15 LT pickups, a thicker back, and period-style wiring give it a warm, dimensional voice that cleans up beautifully from the volume knob. It comes as a doublecut or a Singlecut, and the platform extends into the S2 and SE lines and dealer-commissioned Wood Library runs. Our 594 inventory is one-off and rotates; every listing is the exact guitar photographed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 594 in McCarty 594 mean?

It is the scale length: 24.594 inches, PRS's measurement of the vintage late-50s scale that gives these guitars their slinky feel and warm attack. It is slightly shorter than the 25 inch scale PRS uses on the Custom 24.

McCarty 594 or Custom 24: which should I choose?

The 594 is the vintage-voiced choice: shorter scale, fatter neck, warmer pickups, and a more traditional response. The Custom 24 is the modern all-rounder with more output and a brighter, faster feel. If you play classic rock, blues, or jazz, start with the 594; if you cover a lot of ground in one set, start with the Custom 24. We stock both deep enough to compare side by side in the showroom.

Will my McCarty 594 be set up before it ships?

Every guitar we sell is inspected and professionally set up before shipping, and anything over $3K gets a complimentary PLEK fret dress on Georgia's only PLEK station.
